8 week journey to a better me

Hello my friends, since the early 80’s after I joined the Air Force, I was stationed in Alaska where holy cow it was brutally cold. I was stationed near Fairbanks. I was young and I needed structure for sure. I spent time going to college at junior college near my home. I did not want to go to college, I had my mind on playing basketball. To be honest I was not interested in learning. I graduated high school and yes this was it, I got a little, i mean little, basketball scholarship which I used. My grade were dispeccable not even worth mentioning. I found myself back home for a while.

Then one day I decided to go by the recruiters office, I told him just sign me up I am ready. Boy if I had known that there were so much other fields I could have chosen I probably would have done something different. God knows best though. I found myself working in the supply field and drove a BIG truck all around to the aircraft hangers picking up bad parts. This is how I met my husband.

Doing my partying days in Alaska, I definitely gain weight, sure I was on the men’s basketball team and then made the Alaska Air Command basketball team, but that was not enough to keep my weight down and plus all we did was eat and drink alcohol. Oh so good.

I found myself in the gym running a mile everyday and then was introduced to some weights. I learned perfect form and got really strong. My arms got big where my shirts were tight, Oh i did not like that feeling at all. I had went to a bodybuilding contest to watch. I was just in awe of the people on stage and thought to myself one day I will be up there. Then reality hit and thought oh I am not going on stage naked, (they wear bikinis to me that was naked) nope no way, no how, not doing it. I found my love for lifting though. Every time I start to feel yucky I hit the gym and start pumping the weights. I love it.

Fast forward though raising a family and going to school to be a physical education teacher. Thank God I am not that in this day and age.

My friend asked me to come work at this place where I can train a few people and then she talked me into doing a figure competition. I had all year to get ready. It really takes more than that. I bought my outfit and heels and everything. I finally got on stage in 2014, 30 years later I did it. I placed third in my age group. Yes third, but boo third cause there was only 3 of us in the group, so last. Shit.

Fast forward again to now, and I have entered a virtual contest and there is big money after 8 weeks. So, yes I signed up and the first week has really got me back to loving to lift and really eating right that I have lost at the halfway point 5% body fat and 4 inches off my waist. I can not believe it. The cardio is taking up some time, plus I am a fitness instructor and personal trainer which takes up more time.

I can tell though that its this discipline and commitment is what I truly needed to better myself and feel more confident to start creating programs for people like me. Stay tuned and I will load up some before pics and after pics.
